Especially under cloudy skies, when light intensity is constantly changing, an extremely fast MPPT controller improves energy yield by up to 30% compared to PWM charge controllers and by up to 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers.

Deep discharge of the battery can be prevented by connecting all loads to the load output. The load output disconnects the loads when the battery has been discharged to a preset voltage value. Alternatively, an intelligent battery management algorithm can be selected: see BatteryLife.

If the solar charge controller is not able to fully charge the battery to its full capacity within a day, the status of the battery constantly switches between "partially charged" and "end of discharge". This operating mode (no regular full charging) damages a lead-acid battery within a few weeks or months. The Battery-Life algorithm monitors the state of charge of the battery and, if necessary, raises the threshold for disconnecting the load day by day (i.e., the load is disconnected earlier) until the harvested energy is sufficient to charge the battery to nearly 100%. From this point, the threshold for disconnecting the load is modulated so that charging to nearly 100% is achieved about once a week.

The device shows the label 48V – on the side of the device packaging, the data sheet for the 48V version is printed. Contrary to these confusing indications on the device itself, this device is, as described, suitable for 12V and 24V – and now also for 48V battery banks. Until recently, these were separate devices – one for 12V/24V and one for 48V – these two have now been combined and the printing on the housing and packaging from the 48V version has been adopted.
