Electric motor with 1 kW power, suitable for sailboats up to approximately 1,000 kg displacement. The motor can be infinitely regulated. The special feature of the EVO is recuperation. There are optional various remote controls and lithium-iron-phosphate batteries with different capacities available for the motor.

The 1,276 Wh battery from the Spirit 1.0 PLUS/EVO can be used for the ePropulsion Pod 1.0 EVO. Alternatively, a larger E-series battery such as the E60 (3 kWh) or E163 (8.3 kWh) can also be used.

The best way to get a detailed overview is to use our configurator (assemble package).
The price is for the engine. In addition, you need a battery (1.28 kWh Spirit battery or 2 kWh E40), charger and controller (see picture). There are also optional accessories (cables, switches) that is a good addition depending on the boat.

The POD Drive 1.0 EVO is the new premium model from ePropulsion. The production of the original Pod Drive is now finally discontinued.
The Pod Drive EVO runs on 48 volts. So you can also use the larger E-series batteries from ePropulsion or third-party batteries.
All new EVO models have recuperation function and can be connected to the new security bracelet.

Pod Drive 1.0 EVO motor - high safety

Battery alarm: An acoustic warning signal informs you about a low battery status
An integrated protection mechanism stops the motor or reduces speed if the POD Drive 1.0 EVO encounters resistance under water.
Integrated LCD display on the remote control provides precise information about the battery and runtime.
Enclosure and connector are waterproof according to IP 67.
Emergency stop magnet chip on the remote control - when removed from the throttle, the electric motor stops immediately.
The Floating Battery cannot sink and floats on top!

Drive 1.0 pod motor for sailboat - ease of use

Extensive accessories and charging technology such as 12 V or solar charger.
Installation should be carried out by a specialist.
The exchangeable battery with a comfortable carrying handle can be brought onto the boat with minimal time expenditure. Then the cable from the flange motor is connected to the housing.
Stepless speed control using Bluetooth wireless control. One press is enough to start the electrically driven motor.
Control is possible forwards and backwards thanks to the convenient remote control. The communication runs via an integrated 3.5 inch compact module.
Alternatively, a side-mounted control lever with a separate display is available.

Technical features of the Drive 1.0 EVO pod motor

Powerful 1276 Wh lithium polymer battery ensures a long range
For a 20-foot sailboat (approx. 6m), the Pod 1 EVO at full power is sufficient for about 7km/h. At 1/2 power, it is about 5.5km/h and at 1/4 power, it is 4.5km/h.
If necessary, a folding or a rotating propeller can be used. The latter is particularly recommended to benefit from recuperation.
Thanks to the high efficiency of the high-quality, brushless DC motor, the motor achieves an overall efficiency of 50%.
The battery is very light at 8.8 kg and does not burden the weight of the keel. In addition, the battery is handy and takes up little space in the sailboat!
Maintenance-free for life. The drives are designed for continuous use underwater. Only the anodes need to be checked annually.
Very quiet - under 60dB! The electric motor is therefore significantly quieter than combustion engines.

More information about the battery of Pod 1 EVO motor

Thanks to the variable battery, you can easily take a spare battery on board. The 1.28 kWh lithium-ion battery can be charged from 0 to 100 within 8 hours with the supplied charger. Most of the time, however, it goes much faster because you rarely drive the battery completely empty.

. Alternatively, charging via a 12 V on-board power supply or with solar cells is also possible. The lithium-ion battery can thus be quickly made roadworthy again.

Drive 1.0 EVO pod motor - battery range

It all depends on how heavy the boat is and at what speed you want to go. Attached are a few real world examples with a 20 foot sailboat and a Pod 1.0 EVO and the old 1018 Wh battery:

Under full load the battery lasts for an hour, the sailboat reached a speed of 8.9 km/h max. The range was 8.9 km. The speed depends, of course, on the hull length.

At 1/2 power, the driving pleasure lasts for a trip over 2 hours on the water with a marching speed of 7.7 km/h and a range of 15.4 km

Who plans longer and more leisurely tours on the water, comes with less power still significantly further. At 1/4 power, a speed of 5.6 km/h was achieved for 4 hours. So a total range of 22.4 km with only one battery charge.

The new Spirit 1.0 PLUS battery with 1,276 Wh holds accordingly ~20% longer through. Who plans longer tours on the water, the battery can be quickly replaced in a few steps and still order a replacement battery. With the Pod 1.0 EVO can be connected beyond that yes also a E40 (2 kWh) or a E80 (4 kWh).
