Rim Drive Technology

Rim Drive Technology (RDT) is one of the innovators for electric mobility on and under water. The company develops and manufactures electric motors from 0.5 to 50 kW power for industrial, commercial and underwater applications.

The products of RDT are lightweight, highly efficient, compact and compatible with many other brands. Rim Drive Technology is convinced that it can offer a suitable overall solution for every customer and every market: from the electric motor to the battery, as well as from the control to the battery monitoring.

The special feature of RDT boat drives is that they do not have a conventional propeller shaft. By dispensing with a middle shaft, the risk of ropes or fishing nets getting caught in the propeller is lower.

If a propeller is damaged, it can be easily replaced within a minute. The propeller blades are very sturdy and resistant.

The Dutch company Rim Drive Technology offers electric boat motors with a power range from 0.5 kW to 50 kW. The existing products are constantly being improved and new variants are regularly added.

For example, a new 75 kW motor will soon be available. RDT has developed the motors since 2019.

In an external rotor, the electrical winding is located in the outer casing (stator). This casing is cast to avoid the use of seals. The inner casing, which contains the magnets, is also cast to avoid internal corrosion.

The bearing system is water-lubricated and lasts for thousands of hours under normal use. The combination of inlet ring, outlet ring and propeller is the most efficient type of drive. Each part has been simulated using CFD analysis and extensively tested under real conditions.

Rim Drive uses its own LiFePO4 batteries. The high energy density, combined with no maintenance costs and an affordable price, makes these batteries the perfect candidate for anyone who wants to be electrically powered.

Based on the individual motors, you can see which batteries are suitable for you due to their performance and capacity. The larger the battery, the cheaper the price per kWh. The 48V 200Ah batteries are priced at less than 400€ per kWh. A certificate from the designated body is available for all 48V batteries.
