Our mobile installation service
We are receiving more and more requests for the installation of our pod motors (ePropulsion, Torqeedo, Aquamot, ...) in our customers' boats. We offer a mobile pod motor installation service.
Is your boat stored in a hall with a power connection or on the shipyard premises during winter? That's all we need!
If you want us to remove the old diesel engine, it would be helpful if there is a small crane available on site. In theory, installation can also be done outdoors in dry weather.
Our Björn drives directly to your boat with his workshop van and carries out the conversion.

Frequently asked questions about pod motor conversion
It depends! If the old saildrive has already been removed, installing the pod motor takes about 2 days.
The most time-consuming part is perfectly aligning the pod motor parallel to the hull, which often requires a custom-made compensation wedge. Several holes need to be drilled through the hull and the motor is bolted in place; afterwards, all holes must be sealed to be watertight.
On the second day, the pod motor is connected to the controller and the battery inside the boat. In addition, some cables need to be laid in the boat and components such as the throttle and display need to be installed. It's best to take a look at the following illustration.
Note: Special circumstances or extra requests can always make the installation take a bit longer.
It depends! In Germany, the hourly rates of shipyards and boat builders are usually between 60 and 100€ per hour (this may vary abroad).
Assuming 2 days at 80€ per hour and 8 working hours per day, we have installation costs starting from 1,600€ net for the installation. In addition, there is usually a flat rate for materials (depending on the installation situation) and the costs for travel and accommodation.
You can save the most money by using a boat builder or service that has already installed an electric pod motor before. An inexperienced boat builder might need 3 or 4 days for the installation. Even if the boat builder charges €10 less per hour, it will end up being significantly more expensive overall.
Some tasks, such as removing the old diesel engine or cleaning the engine compartment, can also be carried out by yourself in consultation with us or the shipyard.
Usually, the electric motor fits the hull without any problems; in individual cases, only the angle needs to be adjusted with a compensation wedge. Of course, it is also important that the boat's rudder is well exposed to the flow.
In our consultation, we look for detailed solutions for the installation and are happy to help. Our service is, of course, free of charge. We would be delighted if you order from us, our offer, and the components, or even have us do the installation. Thank you!

Procedure for installing the pod motor
The most time-consuming part is the perfect alignment of the pod motor parallel to the hull; for this, a compensation wedge often has to be custom-made. Of course, there must also be enough space inside for the installation.
Several holes are drilled through the hull and the motor is bolted in place; afterwards, all holes must be sealed watertight and allowed to cure.
Next, the pod motor is connected to the controller and the battery inside. In addition, some cables need to be laid in the boat and components such as the throttle lever and display must be installed and put into operation.
