MetsTrade 2025 - new electric motors
Faster and stronger – once again this year, we spent 3 days on site to meet all acquaintances and partners at MetsTrade and to check everything out.
In this blog, you can read about the new products for 2025. Unfortunately, we are not able to cover every company individually this year either, so we try to focus on the most important things.
Some new products are not yet official, so we recommend contacting us again before placing an order.
Spirit 2 from ePropulsion
The new Spirit 2 from ePropulsion introduces a new category in the field of electric outboard motors with integrated battery, all under the motto PLANING SPEED.
Until now, outboards with integrated batteries were only designed for slow speeds of 8 to a maximum of 10 km/h. Now we have a production-ready motor that promises up to 18 km/h at 2 kW continuous power and 22 km/h at 3 kW peak power.
Measurements were taken on a very light aluminum boat with one person in calm water. Realistically, the values are probably somewhat lower – nevertheless, it is clear to see that the boat picks up speed properly, just like with a 5 HP gasoline engine.
We strongly recommend pre-ordering the Spirit 2 incl. 1,568 Wh battery.
Momentum U2 with integrated battery
The Momentum U2 was announced long before the ePropulsion Spirit 2, but the motor from market leader ePropulsion is stealing some of its spotlight.
The Momentum U2 has 2.5 kW, which is even 25% more continuous power, and the weight is about 5 kg less. This is mainly due to the lighter motor, but also the smaller battery.
In terms of price, the Momentum U2 will cost a few hundred euros more, but it also comes with a few advantages. We will test the motors at the beginning of 2026 and can then report in detail in a video. Pre-orders are already possible!

Travel XS by Torqeedo
Compared to ePropulsion and Momentum, Torqeedo is taking a slight step back and aims to offer the best entry-level motor on the market at a price below the magic threshold of €2,000.
The new Travel XS features a 700 W electric motor and a 648 Wh battery. This is sufficient for short distances and the motor provides enough thrust for inflatable boats and fishing dinghies.
Torqeedo continues to impress with very good quality around the tiller and the display.
Boatee - 1.3 kW outboard motor in ULTRALIGHT
We had never heard of Boatee before and were all the more surprised by the small but impressive outboard motor with 1.3 kW of power. The motor and shaft are so light and slim that hardly any water resistance occurs, allowing boats to travel very efficiently.
The motor weighs only 6 kg. You still need an external battery, which is connected to the motor via cable and fits inside the boat. The 1.3 kW motor certainly has potential. In terms of price, it is expected to be in the range of ePropulsion and Torqeedo, including the battery.
If you are interested in a Boatee, feel free to let us know!
Competr 22 kW outboard motor for tender boats
The company Competr presents a 22 kW motor with a truly interesting propeller design! Here we have two counter-rotating screws, with the propellers positioned in front of the actual motor, which theoretically gives the motor even less water resistance.
Technically, Competr's solution looks really smart and the test videos also show positive results. In the power range of classic 20-30 HP outboard motors, to be honest, there aren't many providers, and Competr can certainly find a place, provided Competr goes into series production.
We are curious and will keep you updated!
EVOA - Outboard motor for tenders
Bigger, faster, further – that's how the engines from the USA are. EVOA is showcasing a 27 kW outboard at METS in Amsterdam, but has also already developed a 130 kW outboard (see picture).
Currently, we are waiting to see if and when the brand will enter the European market. The 27 kW option for tender boats in particular has potential, as the battery does not yet need to be excessively large.
VETUS 22 kW E-Line inboard motor
VETUS is truly one of the most popular inboard engines in our range, offering high reliability at an affordable price.
In 2026, the power will be doubled – now with 22 kW for boats up to 10 tons displacement or more. In this power range, apart from Green Marine and maybe WaterWorld, there are not many providers yet. I think in 2026 we will tackle some larger refits with the new 22 kW motor!
More new products 2025
The complete system of the 160 kW BOSCH drive as a plug & play version is ready. RAD Propulsion is presenting the 120 kW motor for the first time and a sketch of a small outboard with approximately 6 - 10 kW (3D printed).
In addition, there were some other innovations such as a 50 kW jet drive from Molabo, which is already being installed in a Kaiser boat and creates incredible performance.
All in all, truly amazing new products that make you excited for more electric drives in the future!
Rim Drive Entry Level outboard motor
Rim Drive Technology presents its outboard motors with tiller in the power range from 2.5 to 15 kW at METS in Amsterdam. In addition, there are also some innovations in control:
The new Rim Drive DPS systems offer precise and reliable control for electric vessels. From dynamic positioning to motor management, they ensure smooth operation and precise maneuvering.
