Range of the BOSCH SMG220
Driving time and range naturally depend on the battery. With a 100 kWh battery, the following range can be achieved:
- At full load, the BOSCH SMG 220 achieves just under an hour of driving time.
- At 1/2 power, the driving pleasure lasts for a 2-hour trip at a very decent cruising speed.
- For longer trips on the water, less power will take you much further. In the combination of short gliding and displacement travel, the battery should easily last for 8 hours.
The battery should be determined depending on the boat weight and the planned range. Please feel free to contact us for individual advice.
Information about the SMG220 electric drive system
BOSCH is introducing a powerful electric motor for maritime applications with the SMG220. In addition to the electric motor, BOSCH also supplies the appropriate gearbox, an inverter (INVCON 3.3) with an integrated DC/DC converter, and a control unit (EDCU) as the heart of the system.
There is a scalable software platform around these components. Suitable 400V batteries, chargers, throttle controls, displays, and other components can be seamlessly integrated into the system. Please contact us for joint project planning.

By the way, the BOSCH inboard engine is available in two power levels, with 90 kW peak and 140 kW peak. The compact dimensions of the SMG220 and SMG 180 shown here (see separate page) allow both variants to be integrated into tight engine compartments, making it easier to retrofit existing applications. In addition to space, there is also enormous weight savings in the engine.
The dynamic behavior of the electric drive offers a new level of driving pleasure for yachts and sports boats. This is particularly due to the high torque. Special attention was also paid to compactness and easy installation for the inverter. The low overall weight of the BOSCH components contributes to increasing the maximum range of the boat.

The components from BOSCH offer very high efficiency, reliability and robustness, as they are based on proven technologies that BOSCH has been successfully using in the automotive industry for years.
At the Salone Nautico in Venice, BOSCH initiated a new era of electric drives. It was only a matter of time before a truly global company entered the [previously] small market of electric boat drives.
The electric drive system from BOSCH went into series production with a pilot customer at the beginning of the year, and other applications are currently in the testing phase and will follow in the coming months.

The screw must be matched to the motor (power, torque, speed) and the boat (length, width, hull shape). In the case of a conversion, the propeller may need to be replaced. We always recommend having this checked by a professional. A calculation by us is also possible upon request!
